Biography

Bernard de Dryver (born 12 September 1952 in Brussels, Belgium) is a Belgian racing driver who attempted to break into Formula One during the late 1970s. He started racing on motorcycles from 1968 before switching to four wheels with Formula Vee four years later. De Dryver finished third in Belgian touring cars driving an Opel Commodore, demonstrating his versatility across different racing categories. His father, who was the Belgian importer of Bang & Olufsen Hi-Fi equipment, provided sponsorship for de Dryver's graduation to Formula 2 in 1975.

During his F2 career, he achieved a fifth-place finish (and last) at Rouen-les-Essarts to score championship points. De Dryver entered two World Championship Formula One Grands Prix, both at his home Belgian Grand Prix in 1977 and 1978. In 1977, he entered a non-works March but failed to make the grid for the race. The following year, he attempted to qualify in a privately run Ensign but did not qualify for official practice, ending his Formula One aspirations.

Despite these unsuccessful F1 attempts, de Dryver's single-seater career included participation in the Aurora F1 series after his Formula 2 graduation. After his single-seater career concluded, he transitioned to touring cars and sportscars, where he found more success. He continued racing into the 21st century, competing in the 2003 FIA GT Championship. Beyond racing, de Dryver has pursued business interests, including property investments in Malta, running a racing team in Belgium, and restoring historic racing cars, combining his passion for motorsport with entrepreneurial activities.
