
Duke Nalon (March 2, 1913 - February 26, 2001): Born Dennis Clayton Nalon in Chicago, Illinois, he was an American racing driver renowned for his performances at the Indianapolis 500 during the 1940s and 1950s. Nalon earned the nickname “The Iron Duke” and was part of the “Chicago Gang” of racers. He started ten Indianapolis 500 races, securing pole position twice and being the fastest qualifier on two occasions. Nalon also achieved success in midget and sprint car racing, winning the 1938 East Coast AAA Sprint car championship and the 1941 Midwestern championship.
