Biography

Gerino Gerini (10 August 1928 - 10 September 2013): Italian racing driver from Rome who participated in six Formula One World Championship Grands Prix from 1956 to 1958. Made his Formula One debut at the 1956 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, driving a Maserati 250F entered by Officine Alfieri Maserati, competing at his home circuit. Competed in six World Championship races across three seasons (1956, 1957, and 1958), driving various Maserati 250F entries as a privateer competitor. Scored no championship points during his brief Formula One career, consistently running in the lower positions when able to finish races.

Best Formula One result came with a 10th place finish at the 1957 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, completing the race several laps down on the winner but earning a classified finish at his home grand prix. Typical of Italian privateer racers during the 1950s, competed in Formula One when finances and opportunities allowed rather than as a full-time professional driver. More active and successful in Italian national motorsport events, competing in sports car races and hillclimbs throughout Italy during the 1950s and early 1960s. Participated in various Italian national championships, achieving better results in domestic competition where the performance gap between privateer and works entries was less pronounced.

After retiring from active competition in the early 1960s, remained involved in Italian motorsport circles and maintained connections to the racing community. Passed away on 10 September 2013 at age 85 in Italy, surviving most of his contemporaries from the 1950s Formula One era. Though his Formula One career was brief and unsuccessful, Gerini represented the generation of Italian gentleman racers who competed for sporting passion during the championship's formative years, maintaining Italy's strong motorsport traditions despite limited resources.
