Biography

Jim Rigsby (6 June 1923 - 31 August 1952): American racecar driver from Spadry, Arkansas who was based in Lennox, California at the time of his death. He participated in two Indianapolis 500 races in 1950 and 1952. The Indianapolis 500 was part of the FIA World Championship from 1950 through 1960, and drivers competing at Indy during those years were credited with World Championship points and participation. Jim Rigsby participated in one World Championship race but scored no points.

He only managed to qualify for the 1952 Indianapolis 500, qualifying 26th and driving steadily to finish 12th on the lead lap in the last point-scoring position. He was killed in a horrible crash during a sprint car race at Dayton, Ohio in August 1952, just months after his Indianapolis 500 performance.
