Cooper Car Company
Cooper Car Company revolutionized Formula One by popularizing the rear-engined layout that became the standard for all modern racing cars. Founded by Charles Cooper and his son John Cooper, the small British manufacturer shocked the establishment by winning back-to-back championships in 1959-1960 with Jack Brabham driving. Their innovative approach proved that a small, agile car with the engine behind the driver was superior to the traditional front-engined layout. Cooper's success forced all other teams to adopt the rear-engine configuration.
After their championship success, Cooper continued in F1 until 1969 but never regained their early dominance.
