Fred Agabashian (August 21, 1913 - October 13, 1989) was an American racing driver known for his success in midget car racing and his contributions to the Indianapolis 500. He won multiple midget racing championships before transitioning to IndyCar competition, making 12 starts at the Indianapolis 500 between 1947 and 1957. His most notable achievement came in 1952 when he secured pole position driving the innovative turbocharged Cummins Diesel Special, marking the first time a turbocharged car led the race. Although mechanical issues ended his run early, his pioneering effort left a lasting impact on racing technology.
Agabashian later became a respected broadcaster, providing expert analysis for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network.
