Biography

Jimmy Reece (17 November 1929 - 28 September 1958): American racing driver from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma who grew up around the sport as his father raced for a time. Reece got his start driving a midget in Albuquerque, New Mexico during 1946, lying about his age to race. He won the Texas State Midget Championship and the Taft Stadium Stock Car championship in 1951. He took part in six Indianapolis 500 races from 1952 to 1958 while it was part of the Formula One schedule, finishing in the top 10 three times.

Notable performances include stellar qualifying runs at Indianapolis in 1956 and 1957, and grabbing the third spot in the front row in 1958. Reece tied for 4th in the 1954 AAA championship standings with Bill Vukovich, scoring 1000 points in 6 races by finishing 2nd, 3rd, or 5th. He was killed during a USAC Champ Car race held at Trenton Speedway on 28 September 1958 while racing for the Bowes Seal Fast team under George Bignotti.
