Biography

Toshio Suzuki (March 10, 1955 - Present): Japanese racing driver who was a top competitor in his homeland for four decades from the 1970s onwards in both single-seaters and sportscars, making his F1 debut at the relatively advanced age of 38. Won the 1979 Japanese Formula 3 title, then raced regularly in Japanese F2 and Formula 3000, finishing runner-up in the series to Mauro Martini in 1992 and remaining a front-runner in 1993. Japanese champion four times in four different championships: Formula 3, Formula 3000, Japanese Touring Car Championship, and Japanese Sports Prototype Championship. In 1993, participated in two Formula One Grands Prix, standing in for Philippe Alliot at Larrousse.

Made his F1 debut at the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka Circuit, starting 23rd and finishing 12th, two laps behind race winner Ayrton Senna. Two weeks later at the Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide, started 24th and finished 14th, five laps behind Senna. Though he scored no championship points, Suzuki finished both races. Achieved significant international success including finishing second overall and first in GTP class at the 1999 24 Hours of Le Mans after participating twelve times total.

Won the Daytona 24 Hours in 1992.
