Race Summary

Max Verstappen delivered a dominant performance to win the Hungarian Grand Prix from 10th on the grid, showcasing his racecraft with a commanding drive through the field at the Hungaroring. The Red Bull driver methodically picked off rivals on the tight, twisty circuit where overtaking is notoriously difficult, ultimately crossing the line seven seconds ahead of Lewis Hamilton. The Mercedes driver secured second place in what was his best result of the season to that point, with George Russell completing a Mercedes double podium in third.

Verstappen's victory was all the more impressive considering he started from 10th after a power unit issue disrupted his qualifying. He carved through the field with clinical precision, making bold overtakes and perfectly timing his strategy calls. George Russell had taken pole position for Mercedes but couldn't convert it into victory, losing out in the strategic battle. Hamilton set the fastest lap while finishing second, demonstrating Mercedes' improvement as they finally began to unlock performance from their troublesome W13.

The race featured a dramatic start when several drivers collided at Turn 1, triggering a Safety Car. Charles Leclerc's race was compromised early when his Ferrari was clipped by Lance Stroll's Aston Martin, damaging his front wing and forcing an early stop that dropped him down the order. He could only recover to sixth place, further extending Verstappen's championship lead. Verstappen's eighth win of the season gave him an 80-point advantage with nine races remaining, all but mathematically securing his second consecutive title. The victory also marked Red Bull's return to form after a difficult qualifying session, proving their underlying race pace remained dominant.
