BMW Sauber F1 Team
BMW Sauber was formed in 2006 when BMW purchased the Swiss Sauber team. The partnership represented BMW's return to F1 as a constructor after supplying engines to Williams. BMW Sauber quickly became competitive, with Robert Kubica winning the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix - the team's only victory and Poland's first F1 win. The team led the 2008 championship early in the season but faded after BMW controversially switched development focus to 2009 too early.
The global financial crisis and the team's underperformance in 2009 led BMW to withdraw from F1 at the end of 2009, returning the team to Peter Sauber.
