Matra Sports
Matra (Mécanique Aviation Traction) was a French aerospace and defense company that competed in Formula One from 1966-1972. Their greatest success came in 1969 when Jackie Stewart drove the Matra MS80 to the Drivers' Championship while racing for the Tyrrell-Matra team, and Matra won the Constructors' Championship. This remains the only F1 Constructors' Championship won by a French team. Matra introduced several innovations including the distinctive French blue livery and advanced engineering approaches from their aerospace background.
After 1972, Matra withdrew from F1 as a constructor but continued as an engine supplier.
