Biography

Edward 'Eddie' Keizan (12 September 1944 - 5 April 2013): South African racing driver from Johannesburg who competed in Formula One from 1973 to 1975, participating in 3 Grands Prix without scoring championship points. Made his Formula One debut at the 1973 South African Grand Prix at Kyalami, his home race, driving a privately-entered Tyrrell. Also competed at the 1974 and 1975 South African Grands Prix, with his best qualifying position being 18th in 1974. His best race result was 11th place at the 1974 South African GP, completing the race seven laps down on the leaders.

Never secured a full-time Formula One drive, competing only in his home grand prix across three consecutive years. Far more successful in South African national motorsport, where he became one of the country's most accomplished racing drivers. Won the South African Formula One Championship (a domestic series, not the World Championship) and achieved numerous victories in South African sports car and touring car racing. Competed successfully at the Kyalami 9 Hours endurance race, one of South Africa's premier motorsport events, achieving podium finishes and race wins.

Also raced in the South African Springbok Series, a domestic touring car championship, winning races and establishing himself as a front-runner. Remained active in South African motorsport throughout the 1970s and 1980s as both a driver and team entrant. Post-racing, Keizan remained involved in South African motorsport as a respected elder statesman and occasional competitor in historic racing events. Passed away in 2013 at age 68.

His three Formula One starts represent his attempts to compete at the highest level, but his true legacy lies in his achievements within South African national motorsport where he was a championship contender.
