Biography

Marc Surer (18 September 1951 - Present): Swiss racing driver from Basel who competed in Formula One from 1979 to 1986. Achieved 1 podium and 17 championship points across 82 races with Ensign, Theodore, ATS, Arrows, and Brabham. Won the 1979 European Formula Two Championship with BMW before making his F1 debut. His sole podium came with fourth place at the 1981 Brazilian Grand Prix for Ensign (later classified third after Nelson Piquet's disqualification for underweight car).

His most competitive period was with Arrows from 1982-1984, consistently scoring points with reliable performances. Career ended abruptly when he suffered serious injuries in a rally accident during the 1986 Hessen-Rallye in Germany, co-driving for Ford. The crash left him with severe leg and spinal injuries that prevented his F1 comeback despite initial recovery hopes. After rehabilitation, Surer transitioned to motorsport journalism and broadcasting, becoming a highly respected Formula One commentator and analyst for Sky Deutschland (German Sky Sports F1) and previously for German RTL television.

His technical insights and driver's perspective have made him one of Germany's most authoritative F1 voices. Also served as a consultant and test driver. Known for his analytical mind and smooth driving style during his racing career.
