Race Summary

Mika Häkkinen continued his dominant form with victory at Hockenheim, controlling the German Grand Prix from pole position. David Coulthard completed yet another McLaren one-two finish, while Jacques Villeneuve claimed his first podium of the season with third place for Williams-Mecachrome. The Silver Arrows' dominance at Ferrari's home country circuit was a psychological blow to the Scuderia.

The victory extended Häkkinen's championship lead to a comfortable margin with just five races remaining. McLaren's consistency and technical superiority were proving decisive, with the MP4-13 now clearly the fastest and most reliable car on the grid. Schumacher's challenge was fading, with Ferrari unable to match McLaren's pace at most circuits.
