Biography

Antônio Reginaldo Pizzonia Júnior (born 11 September 1980 in Manaus, Brazil), nicknamed 'Jungle Boy' in reference to his native Amazonas, is a Brazilian professional racing driver who competed in Formula One from 2003 to 2005. Pizzonia's racing career began in 1997 with Formula Vauxhall Junior, where he won the Winter Festival. His rapid progression continued through Formula Renault 2.0 UK (1999 champion) and the 2000 British Formula 3 Championship, which he won convincingly.

After two seasons in Formula 3000, finishing sixth in 2001, Pizzonia was hired as Williams' test driver in 2002 while competing in F3000. His impressive testing performances earned him a full-time seat with Jaguar for 2003, partnering Mark Webber. However, a string of poor results led to his mid-season replacement by Justin Wilson. Returning to Williams as test driver in 2004, Pizzonia got his second chance when Marc Gené, who was substituting for injured Ralf Schumacher, was replaced.

At the German Grand Prix, Pizzonia finished seventh to score his first two championship points, repeating the feat at Hungary. At Belgium's Spa-Francorchamps, he briefly led an F1 race for the first time but retired from third place with gearbox failure. When Nick Heidfeld suffered concussion at Monza in 2005, Pizzonia returned for one final race, again finishing seventh. Williams retained him as test driver, but released him at season's end after 20 total Grand Prix starts.
