
Jonkheer Gijsbert 'Gijs' van Lennep (16 March 1942 - Present): Dutch racing driver from Aerdenhout who competed in 8 Formula 1 races between 1971 and 1975 for Williams and Ensign, scoring 2 championship points with sixth-place finishes at the 1973 Dutch and 1975 German Grands Prix. A member of Dutch nobility with the title of Baron, van Lennep became legendary in endurance racing rather than F1. His greatest achievement came at the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he and Helmut Marko set a distance record of 5,335 km in a Porsche 917K that stood until 2010. He won Le Mans again in 1976 with Jacky Ickx before announcing his retirement.
Van Lennep also won the 1973 Targa Florio with Herbert Müller and claimed the 1973 Rothmans F5000 championship in a Surtees. A passionate racing enthusiast from childhood, he attended Zandvoort's inaugural race in 1948 at age six. In 1999, he was voted best Dutch racing driver of the 20th century.
