Günther Seiffert (22 November 1937 - Present): German racing driver from Nuremberg who participated in one Formula One World Championship Grand Prix. Made his sole Formula One appearance at the 1962 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring on 5 August 1962, driving a Lotus 24-Climax. Qualified for the race at his home circuit, demonstrating sufficient pace to make the grid at the Nürburgring, one of the world's most demanding circuits. Retired from the race after completing just one lap when his Lotus suffered gearbox failure, his Formula One championship career ending almost before it began.
Scored no championship points from his brief Formula One appearance. Before his Formula One attempt, competed in German national motorsport during the early 1960s, racing in various sports car and touring car events. His single Formula One entry at the Nürburgring represented his opportunity to compete at the highest level of motorsport at his home race. After his brief Formula One appearance, returned to German national motorsport where he continued racing in various categories through the 1960s.
Competed primarily in sports car events and touring car races in Germany, achieving modest success in domestic competitions. His Formula One career exemplified the era when talented national-level drivers received occasional opportunities to compete in world championship events, usually at their home grand prix, though rarely with competitive results. As of 2025, remains one of the many drivers whose Formula One careers consisted of a single retirement, though his qualification for the notoriously difficult Nürburgring demonstrated genuine ability.
