Anthony David "Tony" Trimmer (born 24 January 1943) is a British former racing driver who competed in Formula One and achieved significant success in lower formulae and saloon car racing. Born in Maidenhead, Berkshire, Trimmer made six Formula One World Championship starts between 1975 and 1978, driving for various teams including Maki, McLaren (as a temporary replacement), and Melchester Racing. While his Formula One career produced no points finishes and limited opportunities, Trimmer was far more successful in other categories of motorsport. He was the British Formula Three Champion in 1970, driving a Brabham, and also won the Lombank Formula Atlantic Championship.
In touring car racing, Trimmer achieved considerable success, becoming British Saloon Car Champion in 1970 driving a Broadspeed Ford Escort. He competed in the British Saloon Car Championship for many years, racing various machinery and establishing himself as one of Britain's top touring car drivers during the 1970s. Trimmer was known for his aggressive driving style and racecraft, particularly in door-to-door racing. His Formula One opportunities came relatively late in his career and with teams that lacked competitive machinery, limiting his ability to demonstrate his talents at the highest level.
Beyond his driving career, Trimmer remained involved in motorsport through various roles including driver coaching and historic racing. He competed in historic events for many years, racing classic Formula One and sports cars. Trimmer's career exemplifies the many talented drivers of the 1970s who excelled in national championships but found limited opportunities in Formula One, which was becoming increasingly professional and commercial during that era.
