Biography

Yuji Ide (21 January 1975 - Present): Japanese racing driver from Saitama whose brief and troubled Formula One career in 2006 saw him become one of the sport's most infamous rookies. The 2005 Formula Nippon runner-up and 2010 Suzuka 1000km winner, he joined Super Aguri for 2006 as the team aspired to field an all-Japanese lineup alongside Takuma Sato. At age 31, he was one of F1's oldest rookies with just 200 kilometers of F1 testing before his debut and limited English proficiency. After spinning multiple times in Australia (where he finished 13th, his only finish), retiring in Bahrain and Malaysia, he collided with Christijan Albers at the 2006 San Marino Grand Prix, causing a spectacular rollover.

On 10 May 2006, the FIA revoked Ide's Super Licence after just four races, preventing him from competing further. While named one of the five worst F1 drivers by F1 Racing Magazine in 2009, later analysis has been more sympathetic, noting his struggles stemmed from minimal testing, language barriers, and an inferior car.
