Race Summary
Jim Clark continued his dominant form with a commanding victory at Zandvoort, making it two wins from two starts and establishing an early stranglehold on the championship. The Scottish star's mastery of the Dutch seaside circuit was complete, as he controlled the race with the effortless superiority that characterized his entire season. Clark's Lotus 25 proved ideally suited to Zandvoort's combination of fast sweepers and technical sections, where the car's superior handling and Clark's sublime car control gave him a decisive advantage. The victory demonstrated that 1963 would be Clark's year, with the combination of his natural genius and Lotus's technical innovation creating a package that rivals simply couldn't match. His performances were redefining what was possible in a Formula 1 car.
Dan Gurney secured an excellent second place for Brabham, the American continuing to demonstrate why Jack Brabham had chosen him as team leader for the fledgling operation. John Surtees claimed third for Ferrari, the former motorcycle champion showing consistent pace in his first season with the prancing horse. Graham Hill could only manage fifth for BRM, the defending champion already facing the reality that his title defense would be overwhelmed by Clark's superiority. The Dutch Grand Prix confirmed that unless mechanical failure intervened, Clark would win the championship at a canter, such was his dominance over the field.
