Biography

Gregor Foitek (27 March 1965 - Present): Swiss racing driver, son of Karl Foitek who raced sports cars from Alfa Romeo Giulietta in 1957 to Porsche RSR in 1973. Foitek won the 1986 Swiss Formula 3 Championship and continued in F3000 with GA Motorsport in 1988, taking pole and winning at Vallelunga. However, his career was marred by causing a major crash at Brands Hatch in 1988, the restart of which led to another serious accident causing Johnny Herbert's major leg injuries. Foitek participated in 22 Formula 1 grands prix from 1989-1990, scoring no points.

In 1989 with EuroBrun, he failed to qualify in 11 attempts. Called up to replace Christian Danner at Rial for the Spanish GP, his rear wing broke at high speed causing a heavy crash, and he immediately quit the team. In 1990, he filled in for the first two Brabham races while David Brabham prepared for F1, qualifying for both Phoenix and Brazil but not finishing either. With Onyx, he qualified for his first four races and was classified seventh at Monaco after a late collision with Eric Bernard while running sixth.

Resources dwindled and he only qualified once in the next four races before Onyx folded after Hungary. He made two CART starts for Foyt Enterprises in 1992. In 2007, Gregor and his brothers purchased the family company Foitek Automotive, specializing in Maseratis and Ferraris.
