Biography

Giovanni Giuseppe Gilberto 'Nanni' Galli (2 October 1940 - 12 October 2019): Italian racing driver from Bologna who competed in 20 Formula 1 World Championship Grands Prix between 1970 and 1973 for McLaren-Alfa, March, Tecno, Ferrari, and Williams, scoring no championship points. His best F1 finish was ninth at the 1973 Brazilian Grand Prix. Galli's most notable F1 opportunity came at the 1972 French Grand Prix when he drove for Ferrari at Circuit Charade near Clermont-Ferrand, though he could only manage 13th after qualifying 20th. After half a dozen races in an uncompetitive Williams car in 1973, he announced his retirement from Formula 1.

Galli enjoyed greater success in sports car racing, winning the 1968 Circuit of Mugello race and finishing second in the 1968 Targa Florio with Ignazio Giunti. He and Giunti also finished fourth at the 1968 24 Hours of Le Mans in an Alfa Romeo T33/2. Galli continued involvement in motorsport after his racing career ended and passed away in Prato at age 79.
